Walter Aeneas MacPhee
11-Dec-1944 - 16-Dec-2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Aeneas MacPhee, a beloved husband, father and friend, who left us peacefully at the age of 80. Walter was born on December 11th 1944 in Little Harbour, Prince Edward Island and grew up alongside his seven siblings, Jack (Mary), Joe (Evelyn), Allen (Marion), Linda (Joe), Sally (Tony), Paul (Ronelda), and Michael (Eleanor), forming bonds that would last a lifetime.
In 1971, Walter married the love of his life, Mary, and together they built a beautiful life over 53 years of marriage. Walter was the proud father of two children, Shawn and Shelley (Sheldon), always supporting them in their endeavours and celebrating their successes. He instilled in them the values of kindness, integrity and perseverance that he learned from his own close-knit family he cherished so dearly. His legacy will live on through his family and many friends who were touched by his quiet strength and caring nature.
Walter was a dedicated and hardworking longshoreman, known for his unwavering commitment to his work and his incredible work ethic. He valued the satisfaction of a job well done and was never one to shy away from hard work. His commitment to his job was a reflection of his character, steadfast, reliable, and always looking out for the welfare of those around him.
Walter’s passion for woodworking was well known. He spent countless hours crafting beautiful wood pieces and creating intricate rod iron railings that will be remembered as his signature work. His love for fiddle music brought joy to his heart and in earlier days, he could often be seen doing a two-step or a jig on anything resembling a dance floor. Even as the years went by and his steps slowed, the melodies of those familiar, twangy country tunes still had the power to make his eyes sparkle, even at the end of his life.
Walter was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. His words were often filled with wisdom, wit, and good stories. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people and a gift for making them feel seen and valued. He was a quiet, kind man with a warm smile and a gentle spirit, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his loving wife Mary, children Shawn and Shelley, his many siblings, and a wide circle of friends and family whose lives were made richer by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on Saturday December 21st 2024 at 11am at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer’s Road, Halifax. Family and friends are invited to gather and share stories and honour a remarkable man who touched the lives of so many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Walter’s memory.
Walter’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Walter. You were loved, and you will be deeply missed.

1949 - 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ivan James Crawford, age 75 of Maces Bay, NB, who passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 at Rocmaura Nursing Home after a lengthy and courageous battle with vascular dementia.
Ivan was born on October 8, 1949, in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Harold and Helen (Bright) Crawford. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maxine (Janes), son, Corey and daughter, Amanda Jane. He was a beloved brother to Frank, Wanda Turner, Richard, Everett (Kim), Wendell and Shirley Fraser (Chris). He was also a special brother-in-law to Wayne and Bruce (Julie) Janes. He will be sadly missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ivan was predeceased by sister-in-laws Marilyn Crawford, Betty Janes and brother-in-law Eddy Turner.
Ivan was initiated into the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 73 in August 1975. He was well respected in the trades community and was employed with Babcock & Wilcox before his retirement in 2007. He took great pride in every job including his first with D’Arcy Welding Co Limited and later E.S. Stephenson & Co Limited. He was one of few to receive the Gold Cap Award for safe work practices while working at the Saint John Shipbuilding & Dry Dock in 1969. He made lasting friendships and lifelong memories while putting his skills to use during the construction of NB Power’s Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station and various jobs at Coleson Cove, Irving Pulp & Paper and the Belledune Generating Station.
Ivan was extremely active and enjoyed a wide variety of activities. He spent many summers in the early years at Pleasant Lake where hours were spent boating and teaching friends and family to waterski. Eventually Ivan chose a seasonal lot at Keene’s Lake where he honed his golf and horseshoe pitching skills, something he would later demonstrate as his divisional winner of the World Horseshoe Championships held in Saint John, NB. In later years, he enjoyed spending weekends at his McDougall Lake camp, fishing, playing washer toss, cards and hunting in the great outdoors. He was naturally athletic and played various sports over the years including hockey, baseball and curling from both Thistle and Carleton Curling Clubs. Ivan was a devoted fan of the Boston Bruins and had an impressive collection of ball caps. He enjoyed time spent traveling south with friends, but above all, he loved spending time with his devoted wife.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Garden and Terrace Court at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Their kindness, care and support over the past 4 years have been a comfort to the family.
